A Sad Day for the President and National Security
Proving that he learned absolutely nothing from the Michael Brown debacle at FEMA or the Harriet Miers fiasco, President Bush today made a recess appointment of the 35 year-old neice of Richard Myers and wife of Michael Chertoff's chief of staff. Julie Myers will serve as the head of the largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security with virtually no law enforcement experience. While I would like to give both Myers and the president the benefit of the doubt, this looks like yet another example of cronyism. And while I'm the last guy in the world to take away from the President's prerogative to choose his own people, could he at least look at a few resumes when it comes to positions so vital to national security?Michelle Malkin had a caustic review of Myers' qualifications back in September when her name first came up. Her opinion hasn't changed.
